June 12

  • The Dallas County Board of Education will hold a Special Called Board Meeting for Personnel, Financial Matters, and Other Business Matters on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 5:30 PM in the auditorium of the Dallas County Learning Resource Center.

June 13

  • The Brown Bag Book Group will meet at the Selma-Dallas County Public Library on June 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Bring a bag lunch and tell us about what you are reading. Tea and water provided.

June 14

  • LifeSouth Community Blood Centers will hold a blood drive at the Walmart Selma from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 14.
  • The Selma-Dallas County Public Library will have a book signing for Cedric Dixon on the release of his new book “After the Ball Stops Bouncing.” I plan to have a book signing on June 14, 2025 10-1 p.m.

 

June 15

  • The Officers and Members of Queen Victoria Lodge #216 and Henrietta Chapter #151 would like to invite each and everyone to our Annual St. John’s Day Program.  The event will be held at the Pineville Missionary Baptist Church in Gilbertown on Sunday, June 15, at 2 p.m.  Guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Lewis Jefferson, Pastor of the Pineville Missionary Baptist Church in Gilbertown.

June 16

  • The Selma Dallas County Historic Preservation Society will have its Selma Art Camp 2025 at 9 Lauderdale Street for ages 8 and up. Camp One will be June 16-20. Camp Two will be July 14-18. The schedule is Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday’s schedule is 9 a.m.-noon. Lunch and snacks are included. For more information, call 412-8550.

June 17

  • Alabama State Sen. Robert Stewart and State Rep. Prince Chestnut invite the public to join them for the Selma 60 Public Education Mass Meeting on Tuesday, June 17, at Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church, 1306 Union Street, Selma. The event will celebrate Juneteenth and honor the legacy of educational equity and community advocacy in Alabama’s Black Belt region. The gathering begins with a BBQ and Book Giveaway at 4:00 PM, followed by the mass meeting at 6 p.m. The keynote address will be delivered by State School Board Member Dr. Tonya Chestnut, whose lifelong dedication to education and community development embodies the spirit of the event.
  • New Macedonia Baptist Church, 8963 County Road 37 (Summerfield Road) in Valley Grande, will have its annual revival Tuesday through Thursday, June 17-19, at 7 p.m. nightly. The theme is “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” based on Hebrews 12:2. The guest evangelist will be the Rev. Jamal E. Browder of North Star Baptist Church in Montgomery. The Rev. Jonathan B. Shanks is the pastor.
  • The Selma/Dallas County Alzheimer’s support group will meet at the public library at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17. All caregivers and other interested persons are encouraged to attend.

June 18

  • Painting with Sarah Wagoner will be Wednesday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Selma-Dallas County Public Library. Make your own masterpiece under the guidance of Sarah Wagoner. Cost is $20. Reservations are required, and space is limited. To make a reservation, call 334-874-1725.

 

June 19

  • A Juneteenth Community Gathering will be held at Elyton Baptist Church in Plantersville from 6-8 p.m. There will be free food, story sharing and political education. They will also have a time for communal healing, reflections on the recent storms and building a future that protects rural communities. It is open to all Plantersville residents. It is organized by Hometown Organizing Project.
  • Foot Soldiers Park will have its Juneteenth Celebration on June 19 from 2-6 p.m. at the future home of Foot Soldiers Park at 1705 Selma Ave. Vendor registration is now open at bit.ly/FSPVendor2025. The first four Black-owned food trucks to sign up get 25 prepaid meals! Nonprofits and community resources can also apply for a free resource table. Entertainment includes Sahi On Ko Djony, Logan the Entertainer and the Clutch Band. Barbara Barge will be the honored foot soldier.

June 21

  • The Levitt Amp Selma Music Series begins on Saturday, June 21, with Reggae on the River at Riverfront Amphitheater, 2 Green Street.  Gates open at 7 p.m. and showtime is at 8 p.m. Free entry. Vendors and food trucks available. Bring your Lawn Chairs, Tents and Coolers (Clear Bags Only).

June 22

  • Elbethel Missionary Baptist Church, 2792 Persimmon Tree Road in Valley Grande, will have its usher board anniversary on Sunday, June 22, at 1:30 p.m. The theme is based on Proverbs 8:34. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Saul Jackson of Little Rock Baptist Church of Brent. Master of ceremony will be Deacon Henry Hicks Sr. The Rev. Trenton Pressley is the pastor.

June 23

  • Seeds of Hope Summer Sports Spectacular will be June 23-25. Drop off will be at 9 a.m. Pick up will be at noon. The camp is located at Seeds of Hope (103 Maxey Street). Athletes will learn skills in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, tennis, volleyball, track and basketball. Call Coach Nez Vaval at 786-202-4925 with questions.

June 24

  • Make a one-of-a-kind decoupage plate with Jan Parker on Tuesday, June 24, from 2-4 p.m. at the Selma-Dallas County Public Library. Cost is $15. Reservations are required, and space is limited. To make a reservation, call 334-874-1725.

June 27

  • Selma Soul BJJ will have its promotion ceremony and community celebration on Friday, June 27, at 6 p.m. It is located at the Selma Mall at 1391 E. Highland Ave, Suite 4.

June 28

  • The Institute for Common Power is sponsoring its Freedom School on Saturday, June 28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1018 Water Avenue. Breakfast and lunch will be served. For more information, visit instituteforcommonpower.org.

June 30
