Qualifying begins Tuesday for municipal elections

The municipal elections that will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 26, will kick into high gear tomorrow as qualifying begins for all Dallas County municipalities.
This includes Selma, Valley Grande and Orrville. Residents wishing to run for office can begin to qualify on Tuesday morning for the mayoral and council positions.
In Selma, the positions of Mayor and Council President are voted on at large from the entire city. The city also has eight wards where one council member will be elected from each district.
Also in Selma, qualifying will also begin for the Selma City Schools Board of Education. One member is elected at large from the entire city. Four additional school board members are voted on in districts.
District 1 comprises Wards 1 and 2. District 2 is made up of Wards 4 and 5. District 3 contains Wards 3 and 8. District 4 consists Wards 6 and 7.
In Valley Grande and Orrville, all of the mayor and council positions are elected at large from the entire community.
Qualifying will end on Tuesday, June 24, at 5 p.m. Applications are available at each community’s city hall.
