Russell Watts hasn’t been able to sleep at night over the past week since shots were fired into his home on Minter Avenue.

In the early morning hours of May 28, at least 10 shots rang out at his home. Several hit his truck and another vehicle, while a few others flew into his home.

Fortunately for his six children and their mom who were trying to sleep at the home, none of them were struck by the stray bullets.

“I thank God that my kids didn’t wake up in the middle of the night,” Watts said. “Otherwise, they would have been hit by the bullets. Fortunately, God kept them asleep when all of that was happening, and the shots went right over them.”

Watts said his home was one of five that had been struck by gunfire during that night.

As of press time Friday, no arrests have apparently been made in these incidents.

All Watts knows is that something needs to happen to stop this from happening again. And it is causing his children to feel uneasy about staying with their father.

“My daughter doesn’t want to come and stay with me at night anymore,” Watts said.  “If I have to, I will stay up all night to protect my family and sleep during the day. Something needs to happen. This has to stop. It only by the grace of God that we were all OK.”
