An incident recently occurred at the intersection of Broad Street and Furniss Street that has taken the downtown traffic signal out of commission.

The City of Selma issued an alert on Tuesday stating that the downtown traffic signal, which is maintained by the Alabama Department of Transportation “is currently under repair and not functioning.”

Apparently, one of the poles that held up two of the traffic signals was struck, and the pole was snapped.

The City of Selma has put up stop signs on Furniss Street, giving the right of way to traffic on Broad Street while the traffic lights are not functioning.

“This signal is not maintained by the City, so no estimated time for repair is available at this moment,” the city said in a social media post. “Drivers and pedestrians: approach with care and follow right-of-way rules. We’ll update as soon as we receive more information from the state. Stay safe and share this notice to help others avoid confusion!”
