The Selma City Council passed a resolution Tuesday night to honor the legacy of Meadowview Christian School, which has shuttered after 55 years of service.
Council President Warren “Billy” Young presented the resolution in front of the council members present.
Teddy Pouncey, vice president of the MCS school board, said he thanked the council for the resolution. And he was hopeful that the school property can continue to be used as a school.
“We have received a letter of intent from Ellwood Christian Academy to purchase the building,” Pouncey said. “All I can say is that hopefully next Monday we can close the deal.
Young said he was sad to see the school close.
“But we felt it very important that recognize the existence of Meadowview Christian School,” Young said. “Many children have graduated and gone on to do great things.”
Some of the points in the resolution included that the school has faithfully served the community to provide a quality faith-based school to the community.
It continued to say that the school leaves a legacy of exceptional community service and education, and to the betterment of the community.
Meadowview Christian School closed its doors on May 16. Its final graduation was held on May 11.
