The school district posted a notice on Friday of the special called meeting, which will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 3 in the auditorium of the Dallas County Learning Resource Center.

At its February meeting, the Dallas County School Board decided to put a pause on school closure. That was also the same meeting where they passed a resolution seeking state intervention for its finances.

In the northern zone, the sixth graders from J.E. Terry would go to Martin Middle School, creating a true middle school with grades six through eight. The students in the younger grades would be consolidated at Valley Grande Elementary School, where there is currently room to accommodate them.

In the western zone, Salem Elementary School is proposed to be closed. The students would then be consolidated at Keith Middle High School, which currently has less than 200 students.

In the southern zone, Bruce K. Craig would close with the students attending Southside Primary School. During this school year, the two schools have been operating in the same building since mold was detected at Southside Primary. The students were moved to Bruce K. Craig.

During this year, Southside Primary was also undergoing construction, and that will be completed this summer.

If approved, the two schools would become one at the renovated Southside Primary campus.

The district held several public input meetings with the purpose of allowing comments on the plan to close J.E. Terry Elementary School, Salem Elementary School and Bruce K. Craig Elementary School.

The final input meeting was held on Tuesday, May 27, at Martin Middle School.

The agenda for the meeting was not immediately available as of press time, but typically special called meetings do not allow for public input. However, it would eventually be up to the board of education if they would allow a public comment period at this meeting.

As many as 10 people commented on the closure plan during the February meeting.
