The City of Valley Grande’s fireworks show will be on Independence Day for the first time this year.

Councilwoman Sara Day, who is the chairperson over the walking trail and community events committee for the city, said Pyro Productions confirmed that they will be able to do the show on the nation’s birthday.

Day said the company will be able to do the show for roughly the same amount as what it paid for the show last year even though it will be held on July 4. The show has been held on July 3 for the past several years.

The only difference in pricing would likely be due to tariffs that have been implemented on foreign goods. A majority of all fireworks in the United States comes from China.

Day was concerned that if they went to the fourth this year, their proposal may go up significantly next year.

“He said he’ll be able to do something similar next year, and they can work on us with our budget,” Day said. “If that doesn’t work out, we can always go back to the third. But he doesn’t see it being any more next year pending any additional tariffs.”

The annual event will begin at 9 p.m. on July 4 at the ballfields in Valley Grande. Day said typically they open the concession stand at the park for visitors to obtain food and refreshments, but if they are unable to open the concessions, she may look at bringing in a food vendor or two for the event.

More information on Valley Grande’s fireworks show will be presented at the next City Council meeting on June 2 at 5:30 p.m.
