Adyn Weatherly didn’t know if she would ever be the salutatorian at Keith High School, much less the salutatorian.

During her high school career, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, she told the graduation crowd in the Joe Evans Gymnasium Tuesday night. However, she overcame it, and still finished in the top two of her class.

“I am very proud to be salutatorian considering my journey to get here wasn’t very easy,” Weatherly  said. “So it means the world to me literally to be in this spot. I feel like I am motivating other kids that didn’t come from much or they didn’t have much or they got sick like I did. I just don’t want them to think that this is just the end.”

Weatherly finished as the runner-up to valedictorian Tamara Jones. She said she is proud of her journey to finish at the head of the class.

“It shows that a lot of hard work that I’ve done to get to this spot,” Jones said. “And I am just proud .”

Weatherly plans to go on to Tuskegee University to major in biology. Then, she will go on to pharmacy school to get her MD in pharmacy.

Weatherly plans to attend the University of Alabama-Birmingham on the biology track to pre-dental track.

“I want to be an orthodontist,” Weatherly said.
