Selma High School grads receive awards

On Wednesday, Selma High School had its annual awards ceremony, highlighting the academic efforts of its graduating seniors that represent the Class of 2025.
Opening remarks were held by Dr. Kesia Smith, who is the principal of Selma High School, welcoming the class including the community to the honorary occasion.
“It’s an honor to welcome you to this special occasion,” Smith said. “As we gather to celebrate the achievements, dedication and remarkable theory of our senior class today, we recognize not only academic excellence, but also the character, leadership and perseverance that have brought these outstanding individuals to this moment. On behalf of the superintendent, faculty and staff, I would like to say thank you to the parents, teachers, and pastors, for encouraging and inspiring our students, our seniors.”
During the ceremony, there were several presentations of scholarships awarded to various students of the graduating class who applied to several colleges across the state, starting off with the Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University (Alabama A&M). Following the Alabama A&M University scholarship awards, various students in the class were recipients of scholarships from Alabama State University, Allen University, Miles College, Selma University and The University of Alabama.
The last two colleges that awarded scholarships to several students were The University of South Alabama and The University of North Alabama.
Seniors who were also involved in the SHS’s band also received band scholarships, in the total of $1.1 million.
A multitude of scholarships were also awarded to seniors from several local initiatives starting with the Dallas County Alumni Chapter of The University of Alabama. Seniors received scholarships in honor of local residents such as Alice Martin-West, Nan Brown Curtis including Ronald B. Herman, founder and owner of Honda All Lock manufacturing company in Selma, alongside others from the Selma Housing Authority, Aubrey Larkin’s Lewis and Brothers Funeral Home and many more.
The ceremony also recognized the top 10 graduates of the graduating class: Ka’Sharee Wilson, who was the Class of 2025’s Valedictorian, Javiell Reeves, who is the graduating class Salutatorian, alongside Sydney Pritchett, Jakaiya Black, Jai Calhoun, Aubrey Safford-Woods, Reagan spears, KéShaye Savage including two other seniors, Miranda Barnes and Sha’Kevion Canty.
“A special congratulations goes out to this year’s Salutatorian, Javiell Reeves, and Valedictorian, Ka’Sharee Wilson—what an incredible achievement! To all of our top 10 graduates, we are so proud of your hard work, dedication, and excellence. We can’t wait to celebrate you this Friday!”, said Selma City Schools through an on-line statement.
