State asks for GOMESA project suggestions

The State Lands Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) is accepting Project Suggestions for activities and programs to be funded through the State of Alabama GOMESA Grant Program.

Congress enacted GOMESA in 2006, thereby significantly enhancing Outer Continental Shelf oil and gas leasing activities and revenue sharing in the Gulf of America.

The GOMESA sets forth the following eligible “Authorized Uses” of GOMESA proceeds:

• Projects and activities for the purposes of coastal protection, including conservation, coastal restoration, hurricane protection, and infrastructure directly affected by coastal wetland losses;

• Mitigation of damage to fish, wildlife, or natural resources;

• Implementation of a federally approved marine, coastal, or comprehensive conservation management plan;

• Mitigation of the impact of Outer Continental Shelf activities through the funding of onshore infrastructure projects;

• Planning assistance and the administrative costs of complying with GOMESA.

Project Suggestions should include the information outlined below in the Project Suggestion Submittal Format section. Questions regarding submission of a Project Suggestion can be presented via email to gomesa@dcnr.alabama.gov. Any updates to this Request for Project Suggestions will be posted at www.outdooralabama.com.

To ensure sufficient time for review, please submit Project Suggestions by June 10 at 5 p.m. Project Suggestions submitted after this deadline will be reviewed only as time permits. It shall be the sole responsibility of the submitting party to ensure actual receipt by the State Lands Division prior to this deadline.
