On Saturday, the Black Belt Community Foundation held its grant distribution program at Wallace Community College Selma.
Each year, the organization hands out a number of grants to the community organizations covering all of the Black Belt counties including right here in Dallas County. The other counties include Bullock, Choctaw, Greene, Hale, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Perry, Pickens, Sumter and Wilcox counties.
The grant application cycle was conducted in January of this year. In 2025, A total of $344,447.20 will be awarded through 141 one-year project grants to 126 different community organizations that are significantly impacting their communities.
“As we continue to celebrate BBCF’s 20th anniversary through May, the Black Belt Community Foundation is proud to award these funds in 141 different grants to community and arts organizations across the 12 counties we serve,” said Felecia Lucky, CEO & President of the Black Belt Community Foundation. “We continue our focus on empowering local initiatives by first listening and responding to the very needs voiced by the communities themselves — all while fostering growth and impacting the entire Black Belt region.”
It is impossible to say what kind of impact these grants will have on our county and region, but it’s safe to say that many of these programs would not be able to do what they do without the help of BBCF and other similar organizations.
We are excited to see our area receiving so much help. Congratulations to all of the organizations that are receiving help this year. And thank you so much to BBCF for being such great community partners!
