Panther baseball season comes to close

The Southside baseball team won two games against Dallas County to end the regular season.

That would have allowed them to finish as the runners-up in Class 3A, Area 4. However, Southside reported that they used an ineligible player, forcing them to forfeit games and eliminating them from playoff contention.

The Panthers held off a Hornet comeback after building an 11-4 lead.

No. 13 for Southside got the win allowing six runs on seven hits and four walks. No. 3 had two strikeouts while allowing two runs on one hit and three walks. No. 99 had an inning of scoreless baseball.

Southside took advantage of 11 Dallas County errors.

Dallas County tried to come back thanks to Joshua Davis who hit a home run, triple and singe with two RBIs. Kelvin Furlow and Patrick Rudolph had two hits each while Devin Woods and Kade Crowe had hits for Dallas County.

Southside 12, Dallas County 10

In a game at Bloch Park, No. 2 and No. 9 for Southside had two hits apiece to pace the Panther attack. No. 13 had 11 strikeouts while allowing 10 runs on 11 hits and two walks.

Tucker Friday took the loss for Dallas County allowing eight runs on six hits and five walks with five strikeouts.

Devin Woods also had a strikeout, a walk and a hit while allowing four runs. Five of Southside’s runs were unearned.

Patrick Rudolph led the Hornet hitting with a double and two singles with three runs scored. Friday helped his own cause with a double and single with an RBI and a run scored. Woods also had a pair of singles while Kelvin Furlow, Joshua Davis, Charles Humphreyes and Kade Crowe each had hits.
