Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

This weekend begins a pretty busy time for the city of Selma.

This weekend, we will have quite a few events going on.

In celebration of Earth Day and Save the Butterfly Day the Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce invites you to the Selma Public Library, Saturday, April 26, at 11 a.m. for the unveiling of Butterfly Sculptures and Butterfly release.

Who knew that Selma was declared the Butterfly Capital of Alabama in 1982? There’s a lot of things I still have to learn.

Here’s a couple of other items from our community calendar:

• Join the Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Information for the April Walking Tours start at 10 a.m. at the Selma-Dallas County Public Library, 1103 Selma Avenue.

• The Selma Charity League will have its Casino Night on Saturday, April 26, from 7-10 p.m., at Sturdivant Hall. Tickets are $40 each and include entry to the event and $250 worth of funny money to play games. Tickets can be purchased from any Selma Charity League member or through Eventbrite at https://SCLCasinoNight25.eventbrite.com. For tickets, email williard.ashley@yahoo.com Ashley Williard or call (334) 431-2019 with any questions.

• Marion Junction will have several locations participating on two weekends during the Spring 2025 Historic U.S. 80 Sale April 25-26 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The locations include the community center located on County Road 29, My Junction located at 12687 Hwy 80W and a location in the Potters Station area at 4751 Hwy 80.

I know there is probably more going on, but there’s not room to put it all in.

If you have something going on in your neighborhood, send it to us at news@selamtimesjournal.com.

We’d love to invite the public for you.
