Dallas County didn’t know they were headed to the playoffs after losing two games to county rival Southside last week.
However, things changed, and Dallas County was given new life after AHSAA ruled on Southside’s self-reported violations in baseball. The Hornets moved up to the No. 2 seed in their area.
The journey in the Class 3A playoffs ended on Friday after the Hornets were swept by Flomaton 13-0 and 18-3 in the first round on Friday.
In Game 1, Dallas County’s Devin Woods was the only batter to get a hit against Flomaton. He got a stolen base to put himself in scoring position.
Crystan McCune also drew a walk in the second inning. After a passed ball, the runners advanced to second and third base with just one out. However, a strikeout and a pickoff at third base ended the inning.
Tucker Friday walked to lead off the third inning. A fielder’s choice allowed Kelvin Furlow to become a baserunner, but he would be the final person to reach base in the game for Dallas County.
Friday took the loss allowing eight runs on four hits and two walks. Devin Sharpe pitched one and two-thirds innings allowing five runs on five hits and four walks with a strikeout.
In game 2, The Hornets showed some signs of life in the first inning. Patrick Rudolph had a one-out single and came home on a double by Devin Woods. Joshua Davis brought Woods home with a triple.
Then on a dropped-third strike force out at first base while Devin Sharpe was batting, Woods came home to score the third run of the inning, cutting the advantage to 9-3.
K Hayes also drew a walk in the second inning with two outs, but another strikeout ended the inning. He would be the last baserunner of the season as Flomaton closed out the game after four innings due to having a 15-run lead.
Dallas County ends its season with a 4-9 record overall. Flomaton (19-8) advanced to play Lee-Scott this weekend.
