The Roaring Twenties will be coming into Selma on Saturday night, as the Selma Charity League hosts its spring fundraiser at Sturdivant Hall.
This time, it is going to be a Casino Night from 7 to 10 p.m. Ticket-holders for the event are asked to come to the event dressed as if they might be attending a soiree at Jay Gatsby’s mansion.
Ashley Williard, project chair of the Selma Charity League, said they are expecting guests to come in and have a great time enjoying hors d’oeuvres and drinks during the group’s biggest fundraiser.
“We are hoping everyone can get dressed up, come out and have a great time while helping a good cause in the community,” Williard said. “This year, the fundraiser will be benefiting the Selma-Dallas County Public Library.”
According to a press release from the organization, the Selma Charity League was founded in 1931 and is a civic organization dedicated to raising money for local charities and serving the community. Over the decades, the league has supported countless initiatives that have improved the lives of Selma residents and strengthened our community.
This year, all proceeds will benefit the Selma-Dallas County Public Library’s Summer Learning Program, which serves approximately 6,000 children annually. The program provides reading enrichment, arts programming, and traveling exhibitions that inspire and educate our community’s youth.
“Your attendance will help fund the summer program and expand year-round literacy initiatives for children in Selma and Dallas County,” Williard said.
Tickets to the event are $40 per person. Williard said the ticket price covers admission, food, drinks, music provided by a deejay and games along with $250 in play money to try their luck in the games of chance. Some of the games include blackjack, roulette, three-card poker and craps, all of which will be played for fun and not real money.
As an additional fundraiser, there will be a draw-down. Two lucky ticket-holders will win $500 while one will walk away with the top prize of $1,000.
“So, grab your friends, dress in your best 1920s attire and join us for a night of fun, laughter and high-stakes excitement—all for a good cause,” Williard said. “We look forward to seeing you there!”
