On Monday, The Dallas County Emergency Management Agency Director Toya Crusoe discussed with the Dallas County Commission about the recent tornado funding updates involving families in the Plantersville area.
An EF-3 tornado touched down during the evening hours of March 15 in the Plantersville area of Dallas County. Two people were killed during the storm. The twister also caused a significant amount of damage along County Road 63.
“As you are all aware, the damage sustained did not meet the threshold for FEMA declaration,” Crusoe said. “So, the threshold for Dallas County is $176,925, and there were 35 structures that were impacted with nine being destroyed and 18 majorly damaged. So, I believe the insured losses exceeded the uninsured.”
Crusoe told the commission that if they would have had more uninsured homes compared to insured, they could have received some type of FEMA assistance. But that didn’t stop her.
Crusoe said she went to a meeting held April 3 at Edmundite Missions in Selma to disclose potential support from volunteer groups.
At this time, Crusoe said she is waiting for a response from the non-profit organization.
