Last Friday, a Selma man was arrested after a traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase that led through a residential neighborhood, ending on the 1200 Block of Hudson street in Selma.
According to The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect currently in custody is 26-year-old Lil’Marcus Ellis, who was the driver of the vehicle that allegedly failed to stop during the attempted traffic stop.
Authorities said when the vehicle did not stop, Ellis proceeded to jump out of the moving vehicle, fleeing on foot leaving another passenger inside the vehicle named Ricky Suttles, who proceeded to jump out the moving vehicle as well but failed, causing the car to run him over.
Dallas County Sheriff Michael Granthum said once the car ran Suttles over, he proceeded to run on foot and the moving vehicle crashed into a fence, pinning law enforcement between the fence and the suspect’s vehicle.
During a special agent FBI search of the vehicle, Dallas County Cpl. Scott Rouse said the following drugs were recovered: one ounce of black tar heroin, a three-fourths of an ounce of meth, one-quarter of an ounce of fentanyl and a small amount of marijuana.
Granthum said hours after the crash, the next day Ellis came to the Sheriff’s office and reported his vehicle stolen.
After Ellis was arrested, he was charged with trafficking heroin, trafficking fentanyl, making a false report, attempting to elude police, possession with the intent to distribute (methamphetamine) and having the unlawful possession of marijuana, which resulted in a $3,061,200 bond.
Currently, Suttles is still wanted by the Dallas County Sheriff’s office. Once arrested, he will face charges of trafficking heroin, trafficking fentanyl, distribution of a controlled substance (meth) and the possession of marijuana.
Like this traffic stop, Rouse said there was one other traffic stop that happened earlier last week that resulted in the arrest of four suspects and a special agent search that recovered more narcotics that were brought illegally into the city.
