71-year-old woman dies in Friday crash

A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. Friday, April 11, has claimed the life of a Selma woman.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Cynthia S Hammerle, 71, was fatally injured when the 2016 Chevrolet Equinox she was driving struck the 2009 Honda Accord driven by an 18-year-old from Selma. Senior Trooper Gregory Corble said Hammerle was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred on U.S. 80 near the 86 mile marker, approximately one mile east of Selma, in Dallas County.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
