Selma City Council Awards Six Residents with Merit Award, recognizes the Retirement of Fire Chief

Last Tuesday, several citizens within the community were awarded the Council President Award of Merit for their Meritorious service to The City of Selma at the March 25 council meeting.

The recipients that received the honorary award consisted of Mrs. Carnettie Ellison, who is the Legislative Consultant and first black female director of Recreation, Pastor John Grayson, who is the pastor of Gospel Tabernacle Praise Church and the founder of ATAP Non-Profit Corporation.

Alongside those two recipients, the City of Selma’s Chief of Police Kenta Fulford was also awarded including Becky Nichols of the Selma- Dallas County Public Library and Albert Hall, who is a retired educator and the founder of Albert South Hall Museum of History.

During the council meeting, the council also recognized the retirement of Chief Coley Byrd, who has served at the Selma Fire Department for over 20 years.
