April 5

• Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church located at 1701 First Avenue, Selma, will have a free giveaway on Saturday, April 5, from 6:30 to 10 a.m. It will be given by the missionary department. Pastor is Eddie Marshall Sr.

• Old Cahawba Archaeological Park will host Old Cahawba Welcomes Lafayette on Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The events celebrate the 200th anniversary of Lafayette’s visit to Alabama’s first state capital. It will be a fun-filled day of reenactments, music, food, dancing and more.  Follow along as Lafayette is welcomed to Cahawba by government officials and townspeople, stepping from the pages of history. Visit vendors and information booths, learn historic dance steps, sample wild game or grab a barbecue plate, and learn more about Lafayette while viewing the short film “Follow the Frenchman.” This free event is open to the public. • Gallery 905 hosts “1st Saturday Selma” on April 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 905 Water Ave. In conjunction with its Thornton Dial exhibition, where there will be an opening reception with ceramic artist Scott Bennett and curator Paul Barrett.

April 6

• Antioch Baptist Church will have its Holy Sunday Celebration of Easter on Sunday, April 6 at 11:30 a.m. The theme is “Death, Burial and Resurrection.” Scripture reference is John 3:16. • Central Alabama Regional Child Advocacy Center will have its annual PINWHEEL Garden Planting on Tuesday, April 8, at noon. It will be held at 420 Broad Street.

• The deadline for U.S. Rep. Terri A. Sewell’s 2025 Congressional Art Competition is April 21, 2025. This year’s theme is Picturing a Future for our Historic District. To enter the contest, students must fill out and submit a Student Information and Release Form with their artwork by Monday, April 21, 2025. Students should deliver their submission to one of Rep.
