Heartbreaker on diamond: Morgan comes up short against Monroe

On a day when they retired Caden Tellier’s No. 17 jersey, the Morgan Academy Senators came up just short against Monroe Academy 6-5.
Morgan jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to Barron Frazier two-run double to score Cade Henderson and Wallis Gilmore. Travis White doubled in Rhett Thomas, the courtesy runner for Frazer, to end the bottom of the first inning.
Travis Jones added a run on a passed ball in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 advantage. Harrison Jones sacrificed to score Frazer in the bottom of the third inning.
However, Monroe scored two runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the top of the seventh to get the win.
Frazer drew a leadoff walk in the seventh inning, and he was moved into scoring position on White’s sacrifice bunt. But Monroe ended the game with a pair of strikeouts.
Frazer finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs while Gilmore was and Travis Jones were 2-for-3. Trevor White had the only other hit.
Frazier had 11 strikeouts through five innings of work allowing just two runs. Thomas also had two strikeouts allowing two runs. Gilmore and White also saw action in the game.
Morgan 2-3, Wilcox 14-1
Morgan won the nightcap 3-1 to end the night on a good note on March 20.
Speedie Pernell got the Senators on the board with an RBI single to centerfield, allowing Harrison Jones, who singled to get on, to score. Clifton Smith then doubled to left field to score courtesy runner W Colquett and Jordan to give Morgan a 3-0 lead through two innings.
The only Wilcox run came off a home run.
Barron Frazer then clinched the win by closing out the fifth inning. He had nine strikeouts for the game.
In the earlier game, the Senators fell 13-2. Morgan actually had a 2-1 lead in the second inning thanks to a two-run single by Wallis Gilmore to score Rhett Thomas and Jones.
The Wildcats then scored two runs, four runs, three runs and three runs over the next four innings to take the win.
Gilmore and Trevor White had the only other hits for Morgan. Aiden Fonsetto allowed four runs in three innings with five strikeouts. Cade Henderson also saw action with a strikeout and allowing five runs. Thomas also pitched two innings allowing four runs with a strikeout.
