Ty’Darius Shannon didn’t know if he was going to be able to play football for his senior season.

During Dallas County High School’s jamboree football game, he broke his wrist while playing running back. The prognosis wasn’t good. He was going to require surgery that would have made him miss his final high school season.

He asked his doctors about finding a way to play his senior season. They said he could do it if, but he’d have to play with a cast on his wrist for his senior season before having surgery in the offseason.

“I told them that I would play with a cast,” Shannon said.

The 6-0, 198-pound senior missed a couple of games, but he played through the pain through most of the season finishing with 70 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, two pass breakups and even scored a touchdown at running back.

Now, Shannon was rewarded with his effort by getting a chance to play football with the Huntingdon Hawks next season. He will play linebacker at the NCAA Division-III level.

Huntingdon wasn’t Shannon’s first offer, but after visiting, he realized it was the place for him.

“When I visited there, it just felt like home,” Shannon said. “I want to thank God for the opportunity to continue playing football at Huntingdon next year.”

Shannon, the son of Valerie Shelton, also said his family and coaches at Dallas County helped push him to be the best he could be. His offensive and defensive coordinators helped him become a better football player.

He also wanted to thank his personal coach Tommy Webber at 910 Fitness.

“I want to thank my family and my coaches who were always there to support me,” Shannon said. “I also want to thank my teammates for all of the memories that we made playing together.”

Shannon has been playing football since eighth grade, but he’s been a fan of football, especially Alabama football, all of his life.

“Getting the chance to play college football, it’s a dream come true,” Shannon said.
