Earlier this month, Dr. Daniel Boyd was appointed by the Alabama State Board of Education to be the chief administrative officer of the Dallas County School District.

On Thursday at a regularly scheduled Dallas County Board of Education meeting at Keith Middle High School, Boyd said he is settling into the new role to help lead the district through the intervention process. He will be working around two days with the district as he is doing to assist other districts.

“I’m here to work with the board and central office team, the principals, all the teachers, students and the stakeholders of Dallas County,” Boyd said at the meeting. “I’m looking forward to working with all of you. So far, I’ve met with the board on Monday, met with the superintendent and his staff today and on Tuesday, and learning a lot.

Boyd commended the district for the work that they have done, especially to improve its academic scores.

“A lot of great things are going on in Dallas County, but there’s room for improvement and I’ll be working with the team to try to get to that particular point,” Boyd said.

School Superintendent Anthony Sampson said it has been a good week.

“This this week marks the beginning of our new trajectory, our new pathway,” Sampson said. “After seeking state assistance and working with Dr. Boyd, we’ve actually been working hard along, through and with the entire staff of charting the path forward, to come up with the necessary actions. We are being provided assistance by the state. And I’m just happy that process is now underway.”

Sampson said they are committed to making it work.

“Everyone’s committed. We focus, recharge and energize to make sure that we make the necessary corrections to provide the best education for students in Dallas County schools.” Sampson said.

Boyd did not go into specifics about what the process will look like, but he appreciated the work that the staff is doing to make it work.

“Thank you all for all the hard work you do,” Boyd said. “Everyone looking forward to working with you all.”
