The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department and the Selma Police Department are investigating the death of a man who was found dead in a private pond on Sunday night.

Dallas County Coroner William Alan Dailey said he was called to the scene in the 10,000 block of U.S. 80 where a man was found floating in a pond.

“The landowners wanted to go fishing that evening,” Dailey said. “That’s when they found in the water. They called 911, and the Sheriff’s Department was called out to the scene to investigate it.”

Agencies responding to the call included Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, Selma Police Department and Marion Junction Volunteer Fire Department.

Dailey said the rescue squad was called out to retrieve the body. The only identification Dailey would give is that the person was a male. He also said there was no identification found on the body. Dailey said the person was dressed.

“There is no immediate indication that foul play was involved, but that is still under investigation,” Dailey said.

The body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for identification and to determine the time and cause of death.

DSCO and SPD are working the case to determine if the deceased person could be related to a missing persons case. He said it could take days or even weeks to determine the identity of the person and what the cause of death would be.
