Train temporarily blocks roadway

Early Saturday morning, a train suddenly stopped on the railroad tracks near the intersection of U.S. 80 and Alabama Highway 41.
The train’s abrupt stop on the tracks resulted in more than eight tractor-trailer trucks coming to a halt and waiting on the roadway for over two hours long.
One truck driver named Paul said at first, he thought the train would eventually move, but noticed hours later it was still at a halt. That’s when Paul said he decided to get out of his truck and call the number on the side of the railroad pole to try to get things moving along.
“With trucking, you have to have patience,” Paul said. “Sometimes, there’s weather, accidents, road closures and as truckers, we learn how to be patient. So, at first, I was willing to wait it out.”

Paul said with the help of the number on the railroad pole, he was able to reach someone who could possibly help but said the person who answered the call at the time could not locate the train’s conductor.
Paul said eventually, he saw a police officer arrive on the scene trying to help and understand the situation, which led to the authorities being aware of the prolonged road closure.
Like Paul, several truck drivers wanted to wait till the train moved to cross the track but instead chose to find another way to turn around.
A couple hours later, the railroad track was cleared and the truckers who wanted and needed to cross the track to get to their destinations could.
