On Friday afternoon, The Selma City School board met at its central office to discuss the employment contract set for the school district’s newest superintendent, Dr. David Scott.

The contract discussed by the board consisted of his salary, modifications to his health insurance coverage alongside further discussion about other benefits within his employment package.

After much discussion, the board’s final verdict of the employment contract for Scott, consisted of an approved salary of $157,500, and the removal of benefits geared towards dental and vision and the inability to have life insurance coverage on the job.

The board also included within the final approval of the contract, the removal of language within the paid leave portion of the document as well.

“We haven’t honored a life insurance policy for any previous superintendents,” said Johnny Moss, III, Selma City School Board Chair and President. He will get the same health benefits that we have always honored for our superintendents.”

Moss said he feels pretty good about the outcome of Friday’s meeting after weeks of negotiating with the superintendent to best assess his needs and the needs of the board and he shared his thoughts behind the process coming to a close.

“We’re just glad this process is over with,” Moss said. “We are ready to move forward and get Dr. Scott within our school district and we are just excited to have him on board.”

Scott was officially chosen to oversee the school system on Tuesday, Feb. 11, and will begin working with the Selma City School District next week on Monday, March 24.
