Today marks the official observance of F.D. Reese Day, which signifies two important dates in 1965.The first date is the beginning of the first successful march from Selma to Montgomery and the day the Rev. F.D. Reese accepted his pastoral role as minister of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, according to an online statement from the F.D. Reese Foundation.
A discussion of the impactful legacy of Dr. F.D. Reese and the challenges and triumphs of the African American community was discussed today at Ebenezer Baptist Church at 1548 F.D. Reese Street in Selma.
There was also an engaging community dialogue addressing key issues and initiatives of just how Selmians can continue to push for transformative change and guest speaker Dr. Umar Johnson, known for his advocacy and thought leadership offered insights into the current state of society and the steps needed to foster unity, empowerment, and progress.
