Monday afternoon, The Dallas County commission addressed several agenda items regarding Dallas County and when County Engineer Anthony Crear came upon the commission, he spoke of a conversation he had with some of the representatives at Truckworx Kenworth.
“Following the last commission meeting, Dallas County has been in a regular habit of rotating its dump trucks out to keep a fresh fleet available for use,” Crear said. “And, again, as I said, we met with them and they talked to us about what they perceived as market conditions that may be very favorable for us to rotate our trucks in the near future.”
After Crear’s announcement, he soon after introduced Jessica Perez, who is a representative for TWK.
Perez told the commission that they were eligible for all of their programs that they have on a rotational basis because they are FET Tax Exempt, which means they are an entity able to purchase taxable goods and services without paying federal excise tax.
Perez explained even further to the commission about prices of dump trucks when the world was shut down because of COVID versus now, where the prices are much higher.
“Since then, trucks have gone up quite a lot,” Perez said. “So, if you all were to rotate out those current dump trucks that you have on your guard, you would be getting a pretty good price for them at the auction.”
So, that’s when the commission posed the question to Perez of just how much the dump trucks are going for currently at the auction.
“Well, that’s hard to say,” said Perez. “Because even the dump trucks at the auction are based off of the market and how the market is doing right now. When you take your dump truck to the Jam Wood Auction, where you will receive a guarantee. It can always go way over that guarantee as well.”
Perez said she believes the guarantee that the commission has on their current trucks was given from the same auction that she was telling them about which is Jam Wood, which led to a deeper conversation about the rotating process of the dump trucks.
Probate Judge and Board Chairman Jimmy Nunn asked the board of commissioners after Perez finished speaking, if there were any comments regarding the proposal and once no further questions were asked, he proceeded to tell Perez that they will be relying heavily on their county engineer on how to proceed regarding this matter.
Perez said to Nunn, if they do decide to proceed, to know that the company has trucks available right now for purchase for the upcoming June sale to kick off the rotating process of their current fleet but she also urges them that they don’t have a lot of time to make the decision because other counties in Alabama and surrounding are coming pretty swiftly to them as well.
