Morgan wins in extra innings

Addison Bond hit a walk-off RBI single to score Leila Moore in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Morgan Academy a 10-9 win over Southern Academy Thursday night at home.

The back-and-forth game culminated with Morgan scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, capped off by Kaylee Cornell’s single, which led to an error by the third baseman allowing Anna Logan Lee to score. Prior to that Lee singled to drive in Kenzie Oates, who reached on a fly ball error, allowing Miles Avery Bond to score.

That tied the game at 9-9, after Miles Avery Bond had a perfect eighth inning, the Lady Senators ended the game on the Addison Bond hit.

Morgan pounded out 12 hits in the win led by Addison Bond who went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored including her first home run of the season. She also had a double.

Leila Moore, Lee and Cornell all had two hits each while Miles Avery Bond (a double), Kenzie Oates and Cassidy Peal all had one hit.

Addison Bond pitched seven innings with seven strikeouts. Of the nine runs allowed, only two were earned runs. She also had allowed five hits and one walk. Morgan committed 10 errors.

Miles Avery Bond got the win due to her pitching the eighth inning.

Morgan baseball 13, Southern Academy 14

The Senators trailed by four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but they could only get three runs as Southern escaped with the victory.

Morgan had nine hits and nine walks in the loss, but they committed five errors on defense.

Wallis Gilmore, Barron Frazer and Harrison Jones each had two hits. Gilmore’s hits were a double and a triple as he scored three times and drove in a run while Frazer had a double with two RBIs.

Cade Henderson also had a triple with three walks, three runs scored and two RBIs. Other hitters included Jake Sams and Aiden Fonsetto. Speedie Pernell also scored after reaching on an error.

Rhett Thomas started the game allowing three earned runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Trevor White allowed seven earned runs on seven hits and three walks with a strikeout. Pernell had one scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

Morgan led 3-2 after the first inning. Southern scored 1, 1 and 2 over the second through fourth innings to take a 6-3 lead. Morgan answered with two in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 6-5.

Both teams scored three runs in the fifth inning to keep the lead at 11-10. Both teams also scored three run-in the seventh inning.

After playing Meadowview Christian on Friday night, the Senators return to action with a doubleheader against Bessemer Academy on Monday.
