The Selma Lady Saints couldn’t over a big deficit in the first inning as Demopolis cruised to a 19-3 on the softball diamond at the Dallas County Sportplex Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Tigers scored 11 runs in the first inning and three runs in the second inning to take a 14-0 lead. Selma rallied adding two runs in the third inning, but Demopolis responded with two and three runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Lady Saints didn’t give up, scoring one run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but it wasn’t enough to rally to keep the game going.
Chasity Brown led the Lady Saints with two hits, one stolen base and one run scored. Ty’Liyah Sheppard and Nicole Holloway also had hits for Selma.
Mariana Brewer and Makenzie Purifoy head scored runs. Purifoy reached twice after being hit by a pitch.
Holloway took the loss despite having a strikeout.
The Lady Saints will return to action on Monday at Carver Montgomery at 4 p.m. They will then return home on Thursday for an area game against Jemison.
