The 33rd annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee allowed local students an opportunity to march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge on the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday on Friday.

The event planned by the Jubilee committee was called the “Children’s Sojourn/Youth Freedom March over the Pettus Bridge.”

Before crossing the bridge, event organizers held a rally similar to what was held 60 years ago to prepare them for the march. Then, the students from local schools including Selma, Brantley and Martin Middle along with others then repeated chants on the bright sunny day as they marched under the archways of the bridge, which are showing some rust.

On the other side of the bridge, they held another rally outside of the National Voting Rights Museum. To obtain swag bags, they had to complete a few activities, which included talking with several foot soldiers about their experience from 60 years ago.
