The Commemoration of the 60th Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee underway

It’s another wavering milestone for the Queen City, embarking on 60 years, celebrating and commemorating the Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee that remembers the anniversary of Bloody Sunday, the Selma to Montgomery March and the signing of the voting rights act of 1965.

1965 was a time period, a year that impacted many all over the world and through this year’s Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee, it will help those who attend remember the past, touch on topics and subjects that can impact the future and be a thorough experience for those seeking to learn about the African American history that stems back even further from 1965.

Starting Thursday, March 6, the official jubilee will begin, starting at 9 a.m. with the first event being the Voting Rights History Bowl, that will be located at R.B. Hudson Middle School on 1701 Summerfield Road in Selma.

The event will conclude at 11 a.m. and the next event for Thursday’s schedule is called “Revisiting the “Negro Problem” which is a 21st Century View- R.T. Pollard Retreat that is happening at Selma University at 1501 Boynton Street in Selma from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This retreat will include an exposition that will start at 10 a.m. with Dr. Charles Bonner and a panel discussion will be held at 11 a.m. with Moderator Dr. T.A. Anderson.

The Keynote speaker of the retreat will be Dr. Otis Moss, III and his speech will conclude the event.

Leading to the evening, there will be another mass meeting, this time geared strictly towards the remembrance of the events that took place in 1965 and those that led to the Selma to Montgomery March, Bloody Sunday including much more.

The mass meeting will take place at Tabernacle Baptist Church on 1431 Broad Street, starting at 6 p.m.
