The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department is looking for at least one shooter who opened fire and wounded six females attending a trail ride after party on Saturday night in the Sardis community.
Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum said the incident occurred at 304 County Road 134 in the Sardis community between 8:30 and 9 p.m. He said a verbal argument began between party goers.
“After the argument, a subject returned with a gun an opened fire on the crowd,” Granthum said. “Six people were hit. All of them were females ages 14 to 34. None of them had life-threatening injuries.”
Granthum said he did not know where the shooter retrieved the gun, whether it was inside a vehicle or located some other place. He also said they are investigating how the suspect left the scene.
Granthum said a crash occurred as some of the party goers attempted to take one of the victims to the hospital. It occurred on Alabama 41 near Pioneer Electric, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the crash.
Granthtum said they collected 11 7.62mm shell casings that appeared to have been fired from an assault rifle. They have sent the casings off for testing to see if they were shot from the same gun.
“Right now, we have one confirmed shooter,” Granthum said. “We are asking anyone who was there and knows who the shooter was to come forward and help us identify him. We know someone out there knows who it is. If you want to do it anonymously, you can call Crimestoppers at (334) 215-STOP (7867). We need to get this coward behind bars.”
Granthum said that he knows the people who put on the trail ride. He said the issue wasn’t from the trail ride, but it was the after party and having juveniles at a party where alcohol may be available.
“The had a DJ and set up lights,” Granthum said. “So, you knew there was going to be a party. I just feel that juveniles really should not be at a party where drinking is going on. It just leads to problems.”
