Dallas County Coroner William Alan Dailey has confirmed that the man who was found floating in the Alabama River on Saturday, Feb. 22, was a man who was reported missing.
Dailey confirmed that Ulysses Hardy Anderson, 45, was the identity of the victim. He said the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences was able to make the determination on Thursday.
“They were able to clean up the body enough to determine that he was indeed the missing person due to facial recognition,” Dailey said. “They have not been able to determine a cause of death at this time. That will take additional time, but they were at least able to identify him.”
Fishermen found the body floating in the Alabama River about 25 miles south of Selma near Minter. The men dragged the body to the riverbank where they called 911.
Dailey said the body, which was later determined to be Anderson, was found dressed.
Family members said Andersson went missing Sunday, Feb. 9, after he went for an afternoon walk on West Dallas Avenue near Hancock’s Country BBQ and never returned home.
His wife, Kimberly, said her husband was a former member of the Selma and Demopolis fire departments. She added he was a kind person who would help any and every one who needed help and wanted help.
“He was always trying to figure out what he could do to help someone and several people have kind of commented about that, saying they remember him and remembered how much he helped people,” Kimberly said.
