The Selma (AL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will hold a “Lifelong Wellness: A Family Affair” on March 15 at the Edmundite Mission-Bullock Center on 1428 Broad Street from 9 a.m. to noon in an effort to reduce health and economic disparities and to save and improve lives in the Black community.
This effort in Selma is aimed at addressing multiple health, educational and economic disparities that negatively impact the health and quality of life for many in this community. The local event is a part of The Links, Incorporated’s nationwide Black Family Wellness Expos being held across the country on March 15, which aims to leverage its entire membership in the effort to improve outcomes for Black families.
“Lifelong Wellness: A Family Affair” contributes to The Links National Wellness Expos effort to raise awareness about conditions that shorten or impact the quality of life for those in the Black community. The entire family is included, from infant to senior citizen. Some of the issues that will be addressed include pre-natal and newborn, maternal health, breast and prostate cancer awareness, kidney disease, heart health, blood donations, organ/tissue donor awareness/signup, dental health, mental health awareness and resources, suicide signs and prevention, anti-bullying, aging, dementia, caregiver resources, tax preparation, voter registration and information and more.
The whole community is invited to this free event, which will run for three hours and feature mini-workshops, giveaways of fresh fruits and vegetables, and monetary prizes. The American Red Cross will host a blood drive, offering $35 to each donor.
Vendor opportunities are still available. Please reach out to Dr. Constance Hendricks at 334-526-0020 or via email at SABlackKare23@gmail.com for more information.
“We are extremely excited about the opportunity we have to serve our community again through the Wellness Expo,” said Selma Links President, Dr. Patricia Robinson. “This will be our third year, and each year we impact more lives. Our goal is to expose the community to various wellness resources and provide an intergenerational experience so all people can be healthy. We are appreciative of each participant, presenter, and vendor that makes this collaboration a success.”
