The Bridge Crossing Jubilee begins in less than a week, and those wanting to participate in the signature Bloody Sunday march and rally may need to adjust their plans due to a change in scheduling.

Retired Sen. Hank Sanders said Thursday that the march will begin at noon instead of the traditional 2 p.m. start time.

“This was a compromise for the congressional delegation that we will have attending the march,” Sanders said. “Many of them will need to return to Washington early that Sunday afternoon. So we had to make this compromise this year.”

Another change is the fact that they will have the rallies after the march on the the east side of Edmund Pettus Bridge. This will be close to the site where the attacks occurred on Bloody Sunday after marchers cleared the bridge.

Faya Rose Toure also said they are planning to let the remaining living foot soldiers a chance to lead the way across the bridge.

“When we get to the site of the rally, we will have chairs set up for the foot solders for them to sit,” Toure said. “Many of them, like myself, cannot stand for too long. So we want to make sure we take care of them.”

In addition to the main event, Toure also said they will also provide free admission to the Foot Soldiers Breakfast Saturday morning and the Freedom Flame Awards Gala for any verified foot soldiers.

The Annual Foot Soldiers Breakfast takes place on Saturday, March 8, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Selma High School Gym at 2180 Broad Street. Tickets are $15, and tables for eight are $150. “Conversations with Foot Soldiers” takes place on Friday, March 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Memorial Park on the Montgomery side of the Bridge. It immediately follows the Children’s Sojourn/Youth Freedom March over the Edmund Pettus Bridge, which begins at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. These events are free to the public.

Toure also wanted to make sure that residents and visitor knew the National Voting Rights Museum will be open on Saturday. Typically it is free, but this year, they are asking for visitors of the museum to give donations to help out the museum.

“We are an all volunteer organization,” Toure said. “So we need donations to survive.”

Additional speakers and performers at the Martin & Coretta King Unity Breakfast on Sunday, March 9, include:
