17-year-old killed in Friday morning crash

A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, has claimed the life of a Selma juvenile, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

According to a press release Saturday morning, the 17-year-old was seriously injured when the 2014 Ram 1500 he was driving left the roadway and struck several trees. The teen was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment and later succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The crash occurred on Dallas County 3 near Dallas County 33, approximately two miles north of Orrville in Dallas County. No additional details have been released.

State troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the crash

Selma City Schools released the following statement on social media Saturday morning:

To members of the Selma City Schools Family,

I am writing to you with a heavy heart to share news of a tragic accident involving four of our beloved Selma High School scholars. Unfortunately, one of them has lost his life.

I want to extend my deepest condolences to all who are affected by this devastating situation.

In these difficult times, the school district’s priority is the support and well-being of all students and their families. We will be providing much needed support services starting Monday morning to help those impacted during this challenging period. Additionally, counselors will be available at the high school for any students or staff wishing to talk and seek assistance.

I understand that this news might cause a range of emotions within our Saints community, and it’s vital that we come together to support each other. Let us lean on one another as we navigate through this tragedy.
