Baseball roundup: Morgan Academy sweeps Saturday doubleheader

The Morgan Academy Senators earned their first two wins of the season by defeating Southern Academy 7-3 and Jackson Academy 17-14.

Morgan Academy will play Snook at home at 5 p.m. Thursday and Cornerstone Christian at 4 p.m. Friday.

Morgan 7, Southern 3

Morgan scored all their runs in the first three innings. Southern scored just three runs in the fifth inning.

Trevor White lead the Senators with a 2-for-3 outing with a run scored. Speedie Pernell and Aiden Fonsetto also had hits in the win. Pernell also scored twice from the leadoff position. Cade Henderson added an RBI and a run scored.

Fonsetto had four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Rhett Thomas had two innings of work, allowing three runs on three hits and two strikeouts.

Morgan 17, Jackson 14

The Senators won a wild four-inning game against the Eagles. Morgan led 5-2 after the first inning, but Jackson scored five in the second inning to make it 7-5. The Eagles outscored Morgan 4-3 in the third inning to lead 11-8. Then Morgan exploded for nine in the top of the fourth inning. Jackson scored three in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn’t enough.

Martin Wilkinson led the way with a 3-for-3 day with a run and an RBI. Harrison Jones was 2-for 3 with a double and three runs scored. Speedie Pernell, Wallis Gilmore, Cade Henderson, Trevor White, Taylon Sigler and Aiden Fonsetto also had hits in the win. Jake Sams also had three runs despite not getting a hit.

Henderson pitched an inning and a third with five runs allowed with one unearned, two hits, three walks and a strikeout. Pernell also had an inning of work allowing six runs on five hits and three walks with a strikeout. White had one and two-third innings of work, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Selma 7-2, Carver-Montgomery 17-19

The Wolverines swept Selma on Saturday at Bloch Park.

In game 1, Selma committed five errors leading to three unearned runs of the 12 scored by Carver.

Parker Romero took the loss despite five strikeouts in five innings of work. Jakobe Lewis and Venetris Eaton each pitched an inning. Eaton had three strikeouts while Lewis had one strikeout.

Samarion Woods and Ryan Reese led the team with two hits each. Woods had a double and single with a run and an RBI. Reese had two singles with a run and an RBI.

Caleb Craig and Eaton both scored twice.

Selma led headed into the final inning 7-6 before Carver exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh to clinch the win.

In game 2, Rodney Thomas had the only hit for the Saints. He and Christian Garrett accounted for the only runs. Walter Hunter had an RBI.

Eaton had three strikeouts in one inning of work. Thomas also recorded a strikeout.
