Baseball: Morgan Academy falls in season opener

The Morgan Academy Senators opened the season on the road with a 6-2 loss to Southern Academy.

Southern took the lead with three runs in the third inning. Morgan answered with a run in the top of the fourth inning while Souther had another run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Senators scored a run to cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the sixth, but Southern added two insurance runs in the bottom half to seal the win.

Morgan had four hits in the loss. Trevor white was 2-for-3 with two RBIs to the Senators. Wallis Gilmore and Jake Sams had the other hits. 

Cade Henderson started and allowed three runs on four hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Trevor White came on in relief allowing three runs, only two were earned, on four hits and one walk during two innings of work.

The Senators will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 22 participating in the Gator Classic in Grove Hill. They are scheduled to play Southern Academy at 1 p.m. and Jackson Academy at 3 p.m.
