Selma hires defensive coordinator from Wetumpka as head football coach

Selma City Schools has tapped Marcus Gardner as the new head football coach of the Saints.

The announcement was made on social media Tuesday night after the SCS Board of Education approved the hire.

Gardner was the defensive coordinator at Wetumpka High School for the 2024 football season. He previously served as the head coach at Carver High School in Montgomery from 2021 to 2023.

His career record is 22–9 according to the school district’s post. His teams made the playoffs each of his three seasons, winning the region championship in 2022 and earning a top 10 ranking in the Alabama Sports Writers Association poll.

Gardner will be formally introduced on Wednesday, Feb. 12, during a press conference. He will also have a meeting with the team and parents that afternoon.
