On Monday, Feb. 3, the Valley Grande Council met to discuss the city’s old business, new business and to announce that the Dave Market quarterly tax inventive contract documents have been officially signed, sealed and delivered to the owner of Dave Market, Dave Oliver, ending the quarterly incentive that has been in effect since 2018.

It was previously a contract between the city and the market owner that was based upon a sales tax rebate that gave Oliver one percent of sales tax that he paid in for the City of Valley Grande.

Labbe previously told the council that the city would usually pay the well-known grocery market about $20,000 to $25,000 quarterly and he told the council with much reassurance that they could buy his contract out after three and half years for $125,000 and he said Monday night, after everything was sent over, Oliver was talking to petroleum engineers about diesel fuel and gas pumps with the idea of catering to truckers and said there could be potential for fuel stations for cars as well.

“The times that we’ve helped him and things like that, it’s going to pay off because that’s just going to be more tax money up there on the Hill,” Labbe said. So, the only thing that we have to do is deliver him the check and we will be cool with Dave.”
