Friday Night, shots were fired in the Selma Walmart parking lot that left one community member dead, 40-year-old Marcus Martin.

Martin was only pulling in a space in the Walmart parking lot when he was fatally struck by gunfire in his vehicle where he soon succumbed to his injuries.

Early Saturday afternoon, the Martin family created a GoFundMe page, sharing the tragic news of the fatal death of Martin and his life as many knew it and to ask the public for help during this difficult time.

“Marcus touched the lives of so many with his kindness, love, unwavering spirit and his gift of music. As we navigate this difficult time, we are faced with the unexpected burden of funeral expenses,” according to an online statement by The Martin Family.

The family also stated to the public, “We are reaching out to our community for support during this challenging period. The costs associated with Marcus’ funeral and memorial services are significant, and we want to ensure that we can honor his memory in a way that reflects the incredible person that he was. We have set a goal of $17,000 to cover these expenses, and the funds will be used for funeral service, burial costs, and his memorial service. Any contribution, no matter how small, will be immensely appreciated and will help us give Marcus the farewell he deserves.”

Just in one day, the community has come together to raise $5,200 so far. Martin’s funeral service has been tentatively scheduled for Feb. 7. At this time, it is unknown where the funeral services will be held.
