George Evans tournament returns next week

The 14th Annual Evans Special Benefit Fund Golf Classic is returning on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the Valley Grande Golf Course.

This event is not just about golf; it’s an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community. Jeannie Evans is dedicated to honoring the legacy of her husband, George Patrick Evans, by continuing the benefit event. 

It supports the special needs students of Selma City Schools, Dallas County Schools and Cahaba Mental Health Center, Selma City Schools.

“George was the the special education coordinator for Dallas County Schools, and he absolutely fell in love with the students,” Jeannie said. “Once he became mayor, he decided to start up this tournament with the goal off raising funds to help the special needs students of our area.”

Teams of three or more will be the flighted three-man-woman scramble. Registration begins at 9:30 a,m. Costs are $270 per team or $90 per golfer. Registration ends Friday, Oct. 11. Team will be able to showcase their skills on four different holes. The fee includes food, drinks and the opportunity to win exciting prizes at each hole.

Jeannie said they are also asking community organizations to sponsor the event and receive recognition during the opening ceremony.

In the event of rain, which is not in the forecast, the tournament would be rescheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 26,.
