Under the direction of Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Selma, the Dallas County Schools and Selma City Schools are working together to hold the “Families First” community resource fair on Friday at Selma High School.
The event, which will be held between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., will help demonstrate interdependence and build transformational relationships in the community. Countless organizations, state agencies and employers will work alongside each of the schools in both districts, including academic and athletic success, violence prevention, mentorship, health and wellness.
“We are excited about this partnership and look forward to helping support our families throughout the upcoming school year,” Dallas County Schools Superintendent Anthony Sampson said.
SCS Superintendent Dr. Zickeyous Byrd said he’s glad to work with the Dallas County School system on a program.
“Selma City Schools is committed to working with our parents and the community of Selma,” Byrd said. “This event is another great opportunity to collaborate and support our community with outstanding resources.”
Dallas County District Court Judge Vernetta Perkins-Walker strongly supports the program uniting the SCS and Dallas County School Districts.
“Growing up in Selma allowed me to have access to amazing mentors and supporters who helped groom me into the woman I am today,” Perkins-Walker said. “This event will hopefully
allow us to improve upon our community’s ability to provide those same meaningful connections and help us to transform the lives of our youth in some really profound ways.”
