It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Lorie Bocquin. She departed this world on July 13, 2024 at the wonderful age of 92. In the afterlife, she is joining her husband, Victor E. Bocquin, her daughter, Karen L. Bocquin, her mother, Kathryn Merritt, her brother, Jim Cox, and her Great Granddaughter, Charlie Elizabeth Reeves as well as numerous family and friends that preceded her departure. Lorie leaves behind her sister, Linda Hollingsworth (John E.), daughter, Jean Gentile (Doug) and sons, James (Theresa), John (Karen), and Bruce Bocquin. Additionally, Lorie’s passing leaves an empty spot in the hearts of 9 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren.
While on earth, Lorie lived a wonderful, event-filled life. She came into this world as Bessie Lorene Cox on 12 May 1932 in Plantersville. Her formative years were as a small town farm girl. She stayed in the Plantersville area until she met her soon to be husband, Vic, a USAF instructor pilot at Craig AFB, Selma , in early 1953. After their wedding it was time to leave Alabama and see more of the United States and beyond. Lorie was the quintessential officer’s wife and stay at home mom. She stayed busy raising her 5 children while accompanying and supporting her husband on assignments in Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Virginia, and one exchange tour in Winnipeg, Canada. After retiring from the Air Force, Lorie and Vic planted roots in Windcrest, Texas where life for Lorie got even busier. She was an active 50 year member of Saint John Neumann Catholic Church. She was also very active in the Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic service organization to feed, clothe, house and heal individuals and families in the San Antonio community who had nowhere else to turn for help. As if church and volunteer work wasn’t enough, Lorie was also extremely active in many Windcrest groups including serving as President of the Windcrest Women’s Club and cooking up a storm in the Windcrest Gourmet Club. Lastly, it would be remiss if it wasn’t mentioned that Lorie loved her Volksmarch fitness walks, gardening, arts & crafts, and she was a very gifted painter.
Lorie’s ashes will be interned with her husband, Victor E. Bocquin, in the Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery in early August. It goes without saying that this world has given up one of its truly special people. Lorie will be sorely missed but will remain a bright spot in the memories of all who knew and loved her. God bless you Lorie.
