Two Morgan Academy junior baseball players made the Alabama Sportswriters Association All-State baseball team.
Outfielder Quamarian Pernell made the AISA first-team. Infielder Cade Henderson earned Honorable Mention honors. They were the only Dallas County players to make the all-state squad, released Saturday by the ASWA.
According to statistics on MaxPreps., Pernell and Henderson each hit .393. Pernell stole 26 bases, 24 hits and scored 24 runs. Henderson, the younger brother of Baltimore Orioles’ shortstop Gunnar Henderson, also pitched for the Senators, adding eight doubles and two triples
.Morgan Academy baseball coach Paul Thomas said he’s proud of what both players accomplished this season.
“Both of these young men have a big love for the game of baseball and this is reflective in how they go about their business in practice,” Thomas said. “They both have strengths that you can’t teach. Quamarian has exceptional speed and puts a lot of pressure on teams when he gets on base. Cade has instincts for the game that allows him to make plays in games that you might not always practice. They both will be key ingredients to the success of our team next season.”
The Senators finished the season ranked 10th in the AISA, falling to No. 1 and eventual state champion Glenwood Academy in the state playoffs.
