Selma Police investigating weekend robbery & 2 shootings

The Selma Police Department is investigating separate robbery and shooting incidents that occurred over the weekend.

Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford said officers received a call around 6 p.m. Saturday . in reference to a Robbery at the 1200 block of Highland Ave. Upon arrival of SPD, officers spoke with the employees who stated that two black males entered the business and showed a concealed weapon.

The employee went on to say that they were restrained by the suspects and that then took several items and fled out of the back of the store. Detectives are actively pursuing leads at this time.

Around 7 p.m. Saturday, Fulford said officers received a call in reference to a gunshot victim at the 400 block of ML.K.

Upon arrival, officers found Keidrich Chestnut laying on the ground with gunshot wounds to the pelvic area. Chestnut was transported to the Vaughn ER and airlifted to Baptist South.

Around 2 a.m. Sunday morning, a man told Fulford he was shot several times standing on St. John Street. According to Fulford, officers headed to VRMC and spoke to Lamorious Prince who told officers that he stood at St. John Street when shots were fired. Prince said he was struck several times
