The Selma Times-Journal

The season was a historic one for Keith High guard Tommy Tisdale III. He reached a milestone in points by scoring 2,000 career points and led his team in a massive comeback that came up just short in the first round of the regional tournament in Birmingham. Tisdale was named to the All-State team and now he is the Selma Times-Journal Player of the Year. Throughout the season Tisdale was an anchor for the Bears. He would be their main scorer night in and night out and he was the driving force that got the other team going. “This award is well deserved for Trey (Tisdale), Keith Boys Head Coach Marcus Turner said. “It’s a testament to the work that he has put in. I look forward to seeing him in the upcoming North vs South game this summer, I think he will represent Dallas County very well.” One of Tisdale’s coaches and principal of Keith High School as well as his Father Tommy Tisdale Jr. said that it was something special to see his son win this award due to the fact of how much hard work his son has put into his craft. “I’m Extremely Proud,” Tisdale Junior said. “It’s not often I get to sit back and look at the fruits of his labor because I’m normally pushing him … he deserves whatever comes his way, we witnessed his baptisms the Sunday before the subregion and he went out and score 36 and 41 respectively, he is an Honor student and a great kid. He has been in the gym, weight room since the last game preparing for his senior campaign.” Tisdale said it was an honor to receive this award and wants to go back to back in this award next year. “It will always be a blessing being a player of the year so I appreciate y’all for giving me this spotlight, Tisdale said. “Although, my job is not finished. I plan to work 3x as hard going into to next year to try and lead my team to Birmingham, while also building myself to hopefully make it to the next level, and also try and get selected to play the Alabama/ Mississippi All-Star game. Playing at Keith has been a blessing to me as I thank all my teammates and my coaches who trust me to make most of the decisions on and off the court. Thanks again for the recognition and I will hope to get this award next year.”
