A Sidewalk Lighting Grant and Walking Trail sign were the biggest topics at the Valley Grande City Council meeting on Monday.

The entire City Council was present: Mayor Wayne Labbe, council members Kay Davidson, Sara Day. Bruce Hughes, Robbie Rose and Jane Harris and Clerk/Treasurer Kim Harris.

In the Mayor’s report, Labbe gave an update on the lighting for the sidewalk grant.

Labbe said that he signed a contract with Alabama Power for the lighting. Labbe also said that he’s working with Aubrey Carter of  Alabama Power. The two sides are working on a start up date.  Labbe projects it will cost $671 monthly.

Labbe also said that the CD at Marion Bank matured on April 8. Labbe said that he and Kim Harris renewed the CD for another 15 months at 4.3 percent interest.

Rose has been working with Gary Courtney on a new sign for a gate at the Walking Trail.  He provided a rough draft on Monday and the council worked out details.

The council agreed to a white backdrop with red letters. The sign would read, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. and cost $100.

In other news, the council discussed about having an older age group for baseball and softball leagues during the summer.

Parks and Recreation Director Bubba Holley said at the last council meeting on April 4 that parents have inquired about.

Labbe suggested sending out flyers to see if there would be interest. Day said people have talked to her.

Kim Harris reminded the council that the annual statement on economic interest is due April 30.

The next Valley Grande City Council meeting will be held on Monday, May 1 at 6 p.m. at Valley Grande City Hall.
