Former Selma Mayor speaks at Selma City Council Work Session

Former Selma Mayor George Evans spoke at the Selma City Council Work Session on Thursday.

PRO TEM Clay Carmichael presided in the absence of Council President Billy Young.

Other council members present were councilwomen Christie Thomas, Lesia James and Jannie Thomas.

Evans, who served as Selma Mayor from 2008 to 2016, addressed the city council on behalf of the Evans Needs Children board. Evans requested use of Amphitheater stage and George P. Evans building to host Fun Day for special needs children from Selma City Schools, Dallas County Schools and Cahaba Mental Health Programs.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 27 from   9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. In the event of bad weather, the event will be held, Thursday, May 4 at same time.

Evans said that he has spoken to Selma Mayor James Perkins.

Carmichael told Evans it will be placed on the agenda for Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
